Why Re-Solving Your Failed Chess Puzzles Triples Your Rating Gains
Most chess players make the mistake of grinding thousands of random puzzles once and never reviewing the positions they failed. Grandmasters Axel Smith and Hans Tikkanen proved with The Woodpecker Methodβand cognitive scientists proved with the Leitner Spaced Repetition System (SRS)βthat re-solving your personal tactical blind spots at expanding intervals (Day 1 β Day 3 β Day 7) rewires slow analytical calculation into instant visual intuition.
Whenever you blunder in Puzzle Rush, Streak, or Daily, the position enters Box 1 along with the exact move you played wrong.
Solving a Box 1 puzzle cleanly on the first try promotes it to Box 2, testing whether you still recognize the geometric motif 72 hours later.
Clearing Box 3 graduates the tactic to Permanently Mastered status and updates your Tactical DNA Radar. Missing at any stage resets the card to Box 1!
Frequently Asked Questions About The Blunder Vault
How do puzzles get added to my Blunder Vault? βΌ
Zero manual setup is required! Every time you play an incorrect move in Daily Puzzles, Puzzle Rush, Puzzle Streak, Opening Puzzles, or the Checkmate Trainer, the engine automatically records the FEN, the winning solution, and your wrong move into Box 1 of your Vault.
Can I practice my vaulted puzzles early before the 1-3-7 day timer is due? βΌ
Yes! Even when your scheduled SRS review queue is at 0 for the day, you can click Cram All Vaulted Positions (Woodpecker Mode) inside the Vault player to cycle through your entire personal error bank on demand.
